Is W/D decent, fun?
At the moment I'm playing as a hammer wielding W/Mo, however, I'm thinking of buying Factions, and with that comes the possibility of playing as a Dervish (the one thing I love about my warrior is the adjacent damage). The scythe sounds like an amazing weapon to use given the fact that it attacks adjacent foes, but I like my Warrior too much to go on and create a new character just like that. The extra armour and armour penetration that the warrior provides seems like it would go well with the melee-oriented scythe. Additionally, the aesthetic appeal of a Warrior with a scythe is just too much to bear. I know almost nothing about the Dervish profession, so I can't really foresee how well it would work (I have taken a look at some of the W/D builds at pvx). Would it be a bad idea to switch professions? Is the class fun, effective in most PvP and PvE situations?

It's Nightfall that grants you access to the Dervish profession.
And yes, using a scythe can be fun. I personally prefer the hammer, but several of my guildies use scythe warriors. If you do though, consider the elite [warrior's endurance]

Right, right - my mistake. I already own Factions, it was Nightfall that I was meaning to refer to.

War/Dervish can be very fun, there are a few builds that work very well.
There are also several builds that are fun but less efficient to play, experiment and enjoy

It's fun but less efficient than D-slash or Earthshaker. However, not by that much. So yea, go for it.
Keep in mind, though: the scythe doesn't attack all adjacent foes, only those adjacent to you and your target, and only up to 3. So in large mobs, Triple Chop + Cyclone Axe + Whirlwind Attack will hit more targets than a scythe will.

You'd need proph for warrior's endurance so e-management will be an issue.

Last night I did a vanquish and tried out this build for the first time, and I have to say that it was rather effective and very fun to play.
If you enjoy dishing out 200+ damage power attacks and tearing mobs apart with the kind of aoe that would put you in hosptal, i'd say give this build a try.
In higher end areas dslash and earthshaker are probably more effective, but tbh most of HM is just c+space anyway, and the w/d is a welcome break from the monotony of other builds.

I have Prophecies, EotN, Factions, and soon to be Nightfall. So I should have no trouble finding a fun build.
Another rather newbish question to pose: do I have to beat the entire Nightfall campaign in order to be able to switch my secondary to dervish?

No, you only need to reach the Comand Center and complete a few quests for it then you should find an NPC there that can change your secondary profession.
It's maybe 1/3 of the way through the story, if that!

Less. It's probably about 1/4 into the story if you're an Elonian character. Importing a character from another campaign means you come in almost right before getting to the profession changer - you just need to do one easy mission and a couple of quests and you're there.

Warrior's Endurance
Power Attack
Eremite's Attack
Protector's Strike
Pious Assault

I think the profession changer at Great Temple of Balthazar will change it to dervish for you.

heres how i run it.. works very well in FoW at least if you have good healers.
[build prof=Warrior/Dervish]["Save Yourselves!"][Warrior's Endurance][Farmer's Scythe][Power Attack][No Skill][Burst of Aggression][Sprint][Sunspear Rebirth Signet][/build]
You should be able to spam ["Save Yourselves!"] during battle. For the optional skill I most often take [Dwarven Stability], [Pious Assault] or [Lion's Comfort] for self heal.
Also [Wild Blow] or [Rending Touch] would prove useful in some situations.

However, [Wild Blow] would kill your self heal as well as SY!

The alternative is that your attacks get blocked and thus kill SY! and your self heal.
Also, why no [Flail]? You need an IAS. And Farmer's Scythe is a terrible skill, take [Eremite's Attack].
Also [Aura of Holy Might] is a must-have on any PvE scythe wielder.

Farmers Scythe is actually a fantastic attack when combined with Warriors endurance. If you hit multiple foes you gain back its cost and it instantly recharges.

What I was running earlier today:[build prof=Warrior/Dervish][Warrior's Endurance][Asuran Scan][Pious Assault][Bull's Strike][Power Attack][Counterattack][Wild Blow][Resurrection Signet][/build]
I was thinking of replacing [Bull's Strike] with [Brawling Headbutt]. Was it a good idea to use [Counterattack], rather than the suggested [Protector's Strike]? (at pvx.) I don't have Aura of Holy Might yet, so I'll definitely work on getting that.
I'll have to play around with all of these useful suggestions - thanks to everyone who helped.

I think Counterattack is a good switch to Prot Strike, Im not likely to chase a running foe cuz Im tanking a bunch of melee. I also ran SY for party support. One problem I find with this build is the lack of defense. Eles r doing serious dmg, in the 3 digits. Any good defensive stuff to add to the build?

If you're running SY (and doing it well, i.e keeping it up all the time), then everyone in your team barring you is taking 82.32% less damage. If the monks can't take care of one person your monks have serious problems (note, you dying in this situation isn't your fault). Very serious. PS: [[Protective Spirit], [[Shield of Absorption]. Protection = Win.
